In 2024, Health Canada released a position on Strengthening the Health Care System in Canada, which included commentary about addressing systemic challenges, such as Emergency Department (ED) wait times. This was preceded by the establishment of Health Workforce Canada (HWC), a stand-alone entity that will work with healthcare stakeholders to share practical solutions and advance modern practices.

With these key system-wide action items in mind, this Master Class, will focus on an innovative yet practical research study that holds the potential to reduce costs and improve the patient experience in any ED. With MSK spine pain cited as a frequent reason for ED visits across Canada, members can expect this session to review the Global Spine Care Initiative classification system and model of care for spine pain assessment and management that can be implemented in ED settings.
